A Hard Road with the legendary 2nd South Carolina String Band is an outstanding CD. Quite obviously it was inspired by the great vinyl recordings of Civil War songs put out in the 70s by the Smithsonian and the Smith Brothers. The best song on the former was Richmond is a Hard Road to Travel. This is where the present title must come from.

The purpose of the 2nd South Carolina String Band is to perform Civil War music as authentically as possible. In their albums the listener will hear the music of the 19th century played on 19th century period instruments in the appropriate style. This is the music as it truly sounded to the soldiers.
